Basic guide to the best floors for offices. ➔ Learn what criteria to follow to make the right choice

Some studies suggest that working in a comfortable and beautiful environment has a positive impact on employee productivity and motivation.

Therefore, the choice of office flooring is not a minor concern. In fact, the flooring of our workspace, (where we usually spend much of our time), will determine its final design, hence the importance of making this decision carefully.

In this case, both aesthetics and functionality are important. So, before we present the different types of flooring for offices, we recommend that you ask yourself two questions:

  • What image do you want to project?
  • What use are you going to give to your office and to each of its spaces?

In the first case, the choice of a particular flooring for your office will depend not only on your taste, but also on the corporate image of your brand or the values that your company wants to convey and that can be identified with colors, textures, or patterns.

Regarding the second question, it is easy to answer: you must identify what you are going to use each office space for, so that you can know what is the ideal resistance and durability of the floor.

You should also consider how many people will be working there, how often you will be receiving visitors, whether there will be goods traffic, etc.

5 Requirements for office flooring

Office floors should be:

  1. Non-slip. An anti-slip floor is key to avoid slipping.
  2. With high acoustic absorption. This quality partly depends on the floor’s ability to attenuate footfall noise.
  3. Resistant. This characteristic is interesting in all types of offices, but especially in those with a high and constant traffic of people.
  4. Antistatic. The recommendation is to choose antistatic floors to absorb most of the electrostatic tensions of electrical installations.
  5. Hygienic. Office floors should be easy to clean and maintain. Alternatives are sought with a minimum maintenance cost, beyond daily cleaning.

The best floors for your office

At L’Antic Colonial we are experts in the manufacture of flooring for both private homes and businesses, and we are very aware of how important it is to find a type of flooring that adapts to the needs of each user.

In offices, one of the traditional options was carpet tiles. However, carpet floors bring dust mites and dust into the environment, so they require a very specific type of cleaning

In addition, when chemicals or oils fall on them, removing stains on them is complicated.

To this, we must add its cost, which is usually higher than the floating or ceramic flooring.

Therefore, we believe that other types of flooring for offices can be much more beneficial

Laminate flooring

Laminate flooring is one of the best choices for offices because of its ease of installation and its great soundproofing capacity.

This type of flooring offers a wide variety of looks, colors and finishes, with imitation pine and oak wood, adapting easily to the corporate image of your company.

Laminate flooring is also ideal if you are looking for a well-performing floor that does not require a very specific cleaning and maintenance, since you will not have to wax it or illustrate it to have a cared appearance.

In addition, this type of floor can be laid over any type of surface, including ceramic, which makes future renovations easier.

Best flooring for offices

Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring is gaining ground over other options at both the domestic and industrial levels for several reasons.

One of the most important being its durability, to which are added other characteristics such as its cushioning, which makes walking on it soft and comfortable because it is an elastic and flexible material.

From a functional and/or maintenance point of view, vinyl floors are the ideal covering for offices because they are very easy to clean: as they are made of impermeable materials, it is only necessary to use a mop and a floor-cleaning product that does not contain abrasives or solvents.

On the other hand, vinyl floors prevent the accumulation of dust mites and bacteria, making them ideal for all types of office areas (offices, kitchen, bathroom, meeting room, etc.).

Other types of office flooring: natural stone and ceramic tiles

Although laminate and vinyl floors are the most recommended in very crowded offices, there are other alternatives, which are more classic, but also offer good results.

One of them is natural stone.

Natural stone floors, such as marble or granite, are always a good choice in work spaces, as they exude quality and elegance. And although they are perhaps not the best choice for large offices because of their price or maintenance, they can be an alternative for small offices, where the traffic is less frequent.

Ceramic tile is the other type of flooring that does not go out of fashion and can be a good option for some offices, being more frequent in common areas such as corridors, break rooms or meeting rooms

In this case, it is worth remembering that ceramic flooring is ideal for highly frequented areas since it requires less maintenance, and it is highly resistant to wear and tear, temperature changes and humidity.
